TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS ROUND 2 HIGHLIGHTS
Only one flight winner from round 1 would survive and advance in round 2.  Can you guess who it was?
A Flight- Bill McClary shot 68 today and was unable to hang on to his round 1 lead, finishing up in 3rd place, but his birdie on hole # 8 eased the pain because it was the only gross skin of the day giving him all the gross skin money, $195.00, Merry Christmas!  Jim Mansfield started off hot going -3 on the front 9, but he couldn’t find a birdie on the back and finished even par for the day good for a 2nd place finish in the TOC, a first place net and a tie for low putts on the day (27).  Mike Santuci who was matching Mansfield birdie for birdie on the front nine was -2 going to the back and when he almost holed out his tee shot on # 10 leaving it 18 inches from the cup his tap in birdie gave him the lead which he never gave up.  Mike ended up shooting the low gross and low net of the day 52 net & -1 (58) gross winning first place gross and advancing him to the 3 hole TOC playoffs.
B Flight- Jason “Muhammad Ali” Bouzos was the round 1 leader but his talking couldn’t match up to his golf game as he shot 70 today and went down like Joe Frazier…Down goes Bouzos! Ending up in a tie for 3rd place with Gary Mullican who won first place net (58).  Mark Hardin shot 68 winning 3rd place gross but ended up staying in 2nd place for the TOC.   So, who came from behind to represent the B flight in the TOC playoffs?   Grant Clarke, who shot 63 today winning first place gross, a closest to the pin on # 11 and a tie for first place low putts (27)
C Flight- Patrick Kanczuzewski had a 4- point lead going to round 2 but even after his closest to the pin and birdie on # 3 he couldn’t hold the lead as he finished in 2nd place.  Dave Baldwin started with only 3 points in round 1 but after shooting a net 56 winning first place net and a closest to on # 7 he was only able to finish in a tie for 3rd place with Dean Burdett who shot 60 net winning 2nd place and a closest to the pin on # 1.  Ray “Player of the year” Coats needed only that incentive to allow him to shot 68 gross today winning first place gross in C flight and advance to the TOC playoffs.
D Flight- This flight is always the most competitive during TOC as there was a 3-way tie heading into round 2.  Jim Hardin was unable to advance leaving him with 31 points and a 3rd place finish.  Craig Cessna finished in 2nd  place for the TOC shooting  75 gross today winning 2nd place gross and his birdie on # 10 gave him only 1 of 2 net skins on the day $105 pay out for each the other was from Frank Welte, who got his $105 net skin for his birdie on # 1, Frank was not in the TOC this year and the rest of the flight is glad Because he played his best 2 rounds of golf in a long time shooting net 54 today winning 1st place net and the long putt of the day on hole # 9.  Your C flight winner and the only player to have the lead on day 1 and keep it was Bob Lopez, who shot 73 winning first place low gross and advanced to the TOC playoffs.
TOC playoff- Mike Santuci, Grant Clarke, Ray Coats & Bob Lopez walk proudly to the first tee as the wind is blowing 15 miles an hour turning that 105 yard shot into a 125 yard shot and with Mike & Bob finding the front of the green both with 30 foot putts and Grant Clarke short of the green, 40 yard putt off the green, Ray Coats decides to “play the hill” hitting it way right but rolls all the way down the hill leaving him a 20 foot putt pin high left of the cup… Everyone made great 2 putts to save par and move on to hole # 2.  Mike Santuci plays the safe shoot just left of the blue flag but the wind takes it and everyone yelling “sit, sit, sit down” he just stays on the back left of the green leaving him an 18 footer.  Grant Clarke plays the same shot but the wind knocks his ball down finding the middle of the green and a 40- footer.  Ray Coats during his down swings reminds himself “don’t push it right into the sand” so he pulls it over the green and behind the trees.  Bob Lopez also pulls his tee shot just left of the green down by cart path.   Mike and Grant are able to 2 putt to make par.  Bob left his first chip short but managed to get his next on the green and 2 putt for a 5.  Ray played in the trees for a while and ended up with a 7 but with everyone getting “pop” excite Mike, Grant is in the lead with 5, Mike with 6, Bob with 7 and Ray with 9.  Grant trying to play the wind pushes his shot left of the green above hill by the cart path.  Mike chunks his shot left and ends up in the hazard.  Bob hooks his shot, thanks to the wind, and ends up in the left bunker.  Ray hits a great shot but the wind knocks it down just short of the green.  Bob takes 2 tries to get out of trap and 2 putts for a 5 net 4 leaving him with a 3-hole total of 11.  Ray gets up and down to make par net 2 and also end up with a total of 11. Mike has to take a penalty stroke but hits a great shot leaving him a 10- footer for bogey.  Grant Clarke finds the green with a 20- footer but then leaves his putt 5 feet short.  Mike, knowing he has to make this putt for a possible tie if grant misses again, knocks his putt 8 feet by and 3 putts for a 6 net 5 also a total of 11.  Grant knows he has it in the bag as he takes his 3- putt 5 net 4 and with a total of 9,
